Athletics Overview

Many people credit high school sports as a major factor in their accomplishments as adults. It is there they learned dedication, commitment, teamwork, and perseverance. At Berean Christian High School we believe sports help teach the important qualities needed to succeed in life. Our coaches are dedicated to teaching the principles of II Timothy 4:7 - "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

We teach not only the skills of the sport but also the practical aspects of living the Christian life. We hold our athletes to a higher standard. We expect them to achieve in the classroom as well as on the field or court. Our coaches are devoted to developing the total athlete. We believe good sportsmanship is as important as winning. "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God, the Father through Him." (Colossians 3 :17)

We stress participation, growth, and a commitment to excellence at every level. Sports at Berean are demanding and challenging, but we emphasize they are, first and foremost, designed to teach students the importance of teamwork, discipline, resilience, sportsmanship, and grace under pressure. Our coaches fully understand and support this philosophy. The athletic teams at BCHS are committed to using athletics to glorify God and share His message.

BCHS athletes have many opportunities to grow in their faith with their teammates. These include Team Bible Studies, Small Group Accountability, Bible Study and prayer. Athletic teams at BCHS frequently meet together for team Bible Studies led by one of the coaches or players. These Bible Studies give each athlete the opportunity to apply Biblical principles to their lives with encouragement from coaches and teammates.

Our interscholastic athletic program has been recognized for outstanding sportsmanship, coaching excellence and achievement in team and individual competitions. As a member of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) - North Coast Section (NCS), the Diablo Valley Athletic League (DVAL) and the Bay Football League (football only), Berean has the opportunity to compete in sporting events with other student teams throughout Northern California.
