College and Career

The five basic questions most frequently asked by college bound students are:
  • Where should I apply?
  • How can I afford to go?
  • How do I apply to college?
  • When should I apply?
  • Once I have received acceptance, which college should I choose?

Berean's College & Career Center provides students and families with resources to better prepare them to answer these questions. Our College & Career Counselors schedule individual conferences with the students to ensure they have a foundational understanding of how to achieve their higher educational goals.

Berean is committed to providing a range of resources to assist its students and families in the college selection process. While much of the college counseling process unfolds during the junior and senior year, Berean also offers the freshmen and sophomores informational sessions about the college process.

All freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will have an appointment with a counselor to discuss the high school preparation necessary for colleges. Additionally, an evening meeting for those students and their parents will occur in the fall in order to present the most current information on entrance exams and recent college admission news. Juniors are encouraged to take the SAT and/or the ACT in the spring of their junior year. The UCs require two SAT subject exams in addition to an ACT or SAT. Check the UC website for specific information on test requirements.

An Information Night for Seniors and their Parents is held in the fall. Individual senior planning appointments with a college and career counselor may be made during the fall months. By mid-fall, seniors should be fully prepared to apply to a well-researched, carefully chosen group of colleges.

College resource material is centrally located in Berean's College & Career Center.

An online assessment that can be taken at home, Career Direct takes about an hour to complete. The student who chooses to take Career Direct will receive a comprehensive, easy-to-read, personalized report that can be immediately viewed or printed. Berean charges $15 for Career Direct.
